Xiaflex Injection
Xiaflex is an FDA-approved injectable medicine that is used to treat Peyronie’s disease. This medicine has an enzyme that has the ability to break down scar tissue. According to various clinical trials, Xiaflex has been proven to improve penile curvature in most men.
This injection consists of a maximum of four treatment cycles. Each treatment cycle consists of 2 Xiaflex injection procedures. Penile modeling should be included 1-3 days after each injection round. This treatment will take place in-office where our urologist will carefully administer the medication into the plaque — this is done with a non-erect penis. One to three days later, a second injection is provided. One to three days after the second injection, your provider will mold the plaque. This is done by applying firm pressure at the end of the plaque to elongate the penis. You will then be asked to perform penile stretching at home and straightening activities for at least six weeks. You should begin penile traction with a traction device two days after the second injection, 2 hours daily.
Bruising and slight swollenness is expected. If there is any mild-to-moderate penile pain, over-the-counter pain medications are sufficient to alleviate the discomfort.
Risks include but are not limited to critical damage to the structure of the penis — one of the tubes inside the penis could break during an erection called penile fracture. There is a chance that surgery cannot fully fix the damage resulting in permanent incapability to have an erection.
